Cadillac Escalade ESV, Lincoln Navigator L,
This tour focuses on Oahu’s lush windward coast and begins as we depart Ko Olina, heading east on the H1 toward town where we will cruise by the Hawaii State Capitol, Iolani Palace, Aliiolani Hale (to see the famed gold-leaf statue of King Kamehameha the Great), Honolulu Hale, and Kawaiahao Church. Kawaiahao Church was constructed between 1836-1842 using approximately 14,000 half-ton slabs of coral rock quarried off the southern coast of Oahu.
Next, we will head towards Waikiki Beach, where we will follow Kalakaua Avenue right through the heart of Waikiki. Once we pass Waikiki Beach, we will continue alongside Kapiolani Park toward the Diamond Head Crater Lookout. After taking a few pics, we will cruise through the Kahala neighborhood leading us onto Kalanianaole Highway heading in the direction of the Hanauma Bay Nature Reserve.
As we begin our trek up Oahu’s Ka Iwi coast, you will be guided alongside one of the most beautiful coastlines in all of Hawaii. You will see some of Oahu’s most expensive residential neighborhoods, beautiful beaches, collapsed cinder cone craters, coves, blowholes, and more! As a bonus, during the winter months (late December – early April), while overlooking the Kaiwi Channel, we may be fortunate enough to see Humpback Whales spouting and breaching during their annual migration.
Once we continue north through Kaneohe along Kamehameha Highway and head into the Valley of the Temples, we will arrive at the Byodo-In Temple. Then, we will stop for lunch at the Waiahole Poi Factory to grab some traditional Hawaiian comfort foods. You can grind (eat) on some Laulau, Squid Luau, their amazing hand-pounded Poi, and maybe top it off with a scoop (or two) of the Haupia ice cream.
After we have had lunch and had some time to recharge the batteries a bit, we will travel through the rural communities of Kahaluu and Waikane on our way to Tropical Farms where you can experience their world-famous Macadamia Nuts. Then, just short of our stop (and turning around point) at Kualoa Ranch, we will visit Chinaman’s Hat, an iconic cone-shaped basalt islet situated in Kaneohe Bay.
As we hele (go; move) on and before we say A Hui Hou (until we meet again), we will go down the Pali Highway, to catch one of the best views on Oahu, from the Nuuanu Pali Lookout. In 1795, King Kamehameha I won a battle at this site that ultimately joined Oahu under his rule. This furious fight claimed the lives of many soldiers, many of which met their demise when they were forced from the Pali’s sheer cliffs.
